In a glorious night, Egypt won the title of the 25th African cup of Nations after beating Cote d'Ivoire 4-2 on penalties in a breath-taking encounter. This is a new record for the championship as Egypt is the first to score the title for 5 times beating the 4-time record of Cameroon and Ghana.
The whole tournament has been a dream with our team walking all the way to the cup in an extraordinary fashion. We have the highest goal scoring squad (12 goals), the strongest defence (received 3 goals), the best player and 2nd best scorer (Ahmed Hassan) and the best goalkeeper (Essam El-Hadary). We haven't been defeated in all 6 matches with 5 wins and 1 draw, all that in fine style.
I was really proud and happy to see Cairo Stadium packed with cheering fans in one glamorous night. The crowds were waving with their flags and singing for their country in a scene that made me shiver. People everywhere were praying for our team to win and the flags were hanging from all the balconies. That was very touching and shows how we, Egyptians, love our country.
