هذه حكاية شعرية لأحمد شوقي. و بالرغم من أنه كتبها للأطفال، فإن بها الكثير من الدروس التي يمكن أن نستفيدها جميعا. بالإضافة لذلك، فأبيات الشعر جميلة و القصة مسلية بحق. و الآن مع شوقي و "أمة الأرانب و الفيل" :

يحكون أن أمَّـة الأرانب * قد أخذت من الثرى بجانبِ
وابتَهجت بالوطنِ الكريم * وموئِـلِ العيـال والحريمِ
فاختارَه الفيـلُ له طريقـاً * مُمزِّقاً أصحابنـا تمزيقاً
وكان فيهم أرنبٌ لبيـبُ * أذْهَبَ جُلَّ صوفِهِ التّجريـبُ
نادى بهم : يا مَعْشـرَ الأرانِبِ * من عالمٍ وشاعرٍ وكاتِبِ
اتَّحدوا ضِـد العدوِّ الجافي * فالاتحـادُ قـوة الضِّعَـافِ
فأقبَلوا مُستصْوِبيـن رأيَهْ * وعَقَـدوا للاجتمـاع رايَةْ
و انتخبوا من بينِهم ثلاثة * لا هَرَماً راعَوْا و لا حداثة
بل نظروا إلى كمالِ العقل * و اعتَبروا في ذاك سِـنَّ الفضْل
فنهض الأوّلُ للخطـاب * فقـال : إنَّ الـرأْيَ ذا الصـواب
أن تُترك الأرضُ لذي الخُرطوم * كي نستريحَ من أذى الغشوم
فصاحَـت الأرانبُ الغوالي : * هذا أَضَرُّ من أَبـي الأهـوال
و وثبَ الثـاني فقال : إني * أعهَدُ في الثعلبِ شيـخَ الفـنِّ
فلندْعُه يُمِدّنـا بحكمتـه * و يأخـذ اثنيْن جـزاءَ خدمتـه
فقيل : لا يـا صـاحبَ السُّمُوِّ * لا يُدفـع العـدوُّ بالعـدوِّ
و انتَدَبَ الثـالثُ للكـلام * فقـال : يا معاشِـرَ الأقوام
اجتمعوا؛ فالاجتماع قـوّه * ثم احفِروا على الطريـق هُوه
يهوي اليها الفيلُ في مرورِهْ * فنستريحُ الدهـرَ من شرورِه
ثم يقولُ الجيـلُ بعدَ الجيـلِ * قد أكَـلَ الأرنبُ عقلَ الفيـل
فاستَصوَْبوا مقالَهُ واستحسنوا * وعملوا من فَوْرِهم فأحسنوا
وهاكَ الفيلُ الرفيـعُ الشـانِ * فأمسـت الأمةُ في أمانِ
و أَقبلِتْ لصاحـب التدبيـر * ساعيَةً بالتـاجِ و السريـر
فقال : مهلا يا بَني الأوطانِ * إن محلِّي لَلمَحَـلُّ الثانـي
فصاحبُ الصَّوت القويِّ الغالب * مَنْ قد دعا : يا مَعشرَ الأرانب

هذا ما كان من أمر أمة الأرانب واتحادها أمام طغيان الفيل، فهل نحن متحدون كما اتحدت الارانب؟

I have been reading lately three nice books about Biotechnology and Cloning. I have learned some very interesting facts from these books. I'm going to speak about one thing now and may be later I would speak about other things.
Senility (aging) of human cells has intrigued scientists for a long time and many theories have been put explaining its reason. Recently, something new was discovered in the chromosomes of cell that's believed by many to represent a mechanism by which cells get senile. These are 'telomeres'.
A telomere is like a cap at the terminal part of DNA molecule (genetic material) in chromosomes. At each cycle of mitosis* these telomeres are shortened till at certain stage the telomere reaches a critical level below which the cell can't normally divide and eventually dies.
For the perfection of working of the human body, three sets of cells have got an enzyme called telomerase. This enzyme functions to maintain telomeres. It's found in embryonic, reproductive and stem** cells. The function of these cells depends on dividing repeatedly so as to produce new cells. If each cell of these loses part of the telomere with every cycle of division it will die quickly and its function will be impaired. That's why these cells need to maintain their telomeres.
The human body is really inspiring. Each and every part of it works in absolute harmony and magnificent accuracy! سبحان الله

*Mitosis: a type of cell division carried out by most of body cells. Each time a cell undergoes mitosis it forms an identical copy of itself. This is noticed in wear and tear of cells. Deeper cells undergo mitosis to form new cell to substitute the superficial dead cells. Except for nervous tissue, all cells of the body have the capacity for mitosis.
**Stem Cells: undifferentiated cells that are in continuous division to generate new cells. Cells of the bone marrow are good example. They divide repeatedly to form different blood elements after a series of morphological changes.
